One thing you omitted is that in Europe, trucks are often loaded into ships, which means shorter cab will allow more space for cargo for the same price.
In Europe, most truck parks located on the main trans-European transport axes have a complete infrastructure needed for normal operation during long-distance travel, so the truck cabin can be used basically only for relaxation.
This is it in a nutshell. I've driven extensively in both America and Europe and I can tell you I wouldn't want to drive a truck made in America on a European road nor vice versa.
@@MunchieOverlord Well admittedly, it's been quite a few year since I've worked the roads over there so maybe things have changed but during my days, there wasn't more than a handful of American made class 8 tractors and none of them were long nose conventionals. If anyone is driving one of those in Europe and it's on something other than the highways, my hat's off to them.
@@hughjass1044 the only thing keeping Euro style from being the best is the simple fact that they aren't as streamlined and consume more fuel/energy. Give them a slight nose like those newer electric style trucks you see in America today, and you end up with almost European style cab overs in America. Modern airsuspension makes it just as comfy to drive overcab as American style, same for the chairs. So that isn't an argument anymore. So after a small styling for fuel efficiency has been done, and the modern suspension is on, Euro style trucks is the only way forward. Easy. and the simple fact that Europeans work to live, not like Americans that live to work.
North American truck designs prioritize comfort since their operators must travel longer distances on wide and straight highways and roads. Conversely, European trucks face size restrictions, narrow roads, and overall shorter hauls. Trucking industry is a major driver behind two of the world's biggest economies: Europe and the USA. Over the years, they depended on and regulated the said industry. However, there are still risks involved in starting a trucking company. As a twenty-year trucking veteran, and 2.5 million miles, I’ll say it right here--trucking is a cut-throat business. You’re chances of being lied to if you start a trucking company is nearly 100%. Shippers and trucking companies will tell you a million lies to get you through the door, but then once you start hauling for them, the reality is uncovered. Expect to make 70% as much as they told you you’d make. Also, expect to work 10 more hours per week than they promised. Too much government control and regulations. To make good money, you will need 3-4 trucks running. If you can’t afford this, the only other answer is to buy your own truck and go out on the road. Consider trucking to be like a college education. There are no books that will tell you how to do it, and other owner operators are hesitant to help you since you will be their competition. If you're looking into starting your own trucking company this 2023 then I will recommend you look into getting a Governmental business grant. I was approved and awarded $280k as startup capital. Today as a company owner, independent owner operator running under my own authority, 11 years running under my own authority. I do a 15 -16 day run. $25,000 in line haul is my goal. Every month is a 10+ day vacation. I run a reefer and only spend $16,000 to $21,000 a year in maintenance. After taxes, fuel and licensing I profit $190,000 in the bank. There is no short cut to success. Get your own authority and work open broker boards for trips. A good starting place as an o/o is to pull a reefer. Try to stay away from dry freight. There are too many green o/o’s in dry freight, and too many coming and going. The competition is fierce, so it is difficult to get high paying loads. Reefers pay more money. If you have some flatbed experience, you will get even better loads and better miles. In fact, o/o flatbed is probably the best route one can take. You will never see the big money off this industry as a COMPANY SLAVE. I wish everyone reading this comment a successful business week.
Hello sir!! Thank you for all the information! I need some help. I want to start a local brick and mortar in my area. I am not yet a business. I need the help in getting a governmental grant as start up capital.
Good afternoon Alex , i just started my veteran owned landscaping company,, we are already up and running with a decent amount of large commercial contracts secured, my issuse is i have funded everything out of pocket and im nearly out of money... do you help vets secure grants?? I’m working 7 day a week at my company and then cleaning a local gym from 11pm - 2:30am every evening and from 6pm - 10pm on sat and sunday....slowly turning into a zombie...any help would be greatly appreciated.....
Hey Robinson!! I have a small business that I have been working on for 10 years. It is now just starting to take off. I am cash flowing but either a large grant or low interest loan would help me expand much faster. I work in the rural market. I help process the spent grains from distilleries and turn them into human food. I don't have any experience going for grants. I was wondering what the best place to look for a loan or grant in this market. Would the food supply chain guarantee loan be the best?
The original Optimus Prime was based on an American truck, the Freightliner FL86 cab over semi truck. Cab overs used to be common in the United States. My Grandfather owned a White-Freightliner cab over with a sleeper cab back when he was a trucker.
No one ever mentions ferries! Here in Europe huge amounts of trade happen across water; Channel, Irish Sea, North Sea etc. Snub nosed cabs mean you can get more trucks on each ferry.
Just put the trailers and drivers on the ferry, and drive them off on the other side with another truck. You'll get lots more cargo on the ferry and the one driver does the whole trip.
For some strange reason, the algorithm thought I was into trucks. 🤦🏻♀️ I'm not, but it gives me the opportunity to thank all truck drivers for making sure everything we need gets delivered. Every single one of you is a rock star!
I can't even tell how many times I clicked on the 'Not interested' button and the algorithm never understood that and still bombarding me with things they thought I'm interested in. I always ended up watching things I don't care for hours and get nothing from the videos lol
First, thank you to all you truckers out there who get our stuff from here to there. Our economy doesn't function without the extremely important work that you do. Big respect for all of you! I love how many truckers in the US own their trucks and live in them, and they take obvious pride in these machines which you can tell by the way they customize them. Some of these big beasts are absolutely gorgeous. Just search something like "customized tractor trailers" and you'll see what I mean.
They definitely keep the world goods going around. Sure ships move long distance cargo but there's always a truck at ships end to drive the cargo to where it needs to be

And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.” (2:136 / Translated by Community)
In Brazil most trucks are from the European breed and I finally understood why: we have really narrow roads and a lot of times trucks must drive inside small cities so it makes sense to have smaller trucks. If we had more room I bet American trucks would be more popular since Brazilian truckers usually live inside their trucks.
Also in Brazil the regulations are similar as Europe. The max length of a truck is the body + cabin, so a larger American cabin means less space for cargo.
You caminhoneiros are a brave bunch. My wife and I went to her native Rio in September '22 and as a caminhoneiro Inglês, I was amazed to see two full sized fuel tankers on the back of a Scania in Lapa for example. Makes my job look easy in comparison.
@@jonasqueiroga5106 Those regulations must be a result of the size of the roads though. You wouldn't want giant American trucks filling up tight roads, leading to more traffic issues.
What about a cordless drill? Vs an impact driver? If I only could choose one...I would go for the cordless drill for the very purpose that it works "good enough" for all environments...Vs an impact driver that is specialised to that environment..as u said.
@@Change-Maker A drill excels at drilling holes and to some extent thanks to its own internal mechanisms also makes it suitable to tighten screws. (So for home use, the drill excels) Whereas an impact drivers, though not very suitable for drilling holes, it does generate 2 to 3 times more torque than a drill and it’s more suitable for quickly driving long or large screws and fasteners. So in an industrial use where there’s thousands of screws to install on a product, every second saved per screw/fastener installed adds up. May not be that relevant for home use but for industrial use, it does. (So in an industrial setting, an impact driver excels) Am I saying that a drill is more useful than a impact driver? Yeah, that’s because most of us don’t need to fasten thousands of screws per day, at most we just have to fasten a few screws a day which a drill with a screw bit can do just fine.
What’s interesting is that Australia have a mix of this trucks. Over long distance travel from one major city to another you would normally see American styles trucks. But in cities and towns you would normally see European style trucks. Each design fills its own niche and not one is better than the other. Edit: I see some people talking about train network in Australia. Yes even though we do have train networks across the coast and country. They are of different sizes and width. Meaning some railways aren’t compatible with one another. Mostly because Australia used to be seperate penal colonies. Which meant each colony developed different style railways. This is why we mainly rely on road trains. Hope this helps.
I made the point that by American (and obviously Australian terms) EU trucks are essentially short haul. They drive less than 400 km on any given route...where US trucks often drive from coast to coast...3500 miles + aren't unusual at all. So, the distance from London to Moscow is less than the distance from Boston, MA to St. Louis, MO 1500 miles...so, in the US if a truck is on the freeway driving 70mph, for 9 hours, he's going to go 600+ miles...less than 1/6th the distance across the US. Australia has similar distances. Short haul trucks in the US may have the long nose (but it will be significantly shorter than a long haul truck) will have very similar dimensions to that of EU style trucks.
You see cabover trucks a lot in America too for short-distance deliveries - Typically box trucks with attached cargo instead of trailers are cabovers to maneuver in city streets or suburban lots. But for the long trips between warehouses, the long trucks are well-suited for the distances between stops.
While stationed in Germany while in the military, I HATED trying to drive our American 18-wheelers (specifically, the 915s and 920s) while maneuvering in German, Belgian and French towns. The streets of some of those villages were laid down a thousand years ago, and were completely incompatible with the wheelbase and long noses of our American semis. - Makes me break out in a sweat thinking about it.

I visited Spain for 10 days, and while I was expecting narrower roads, I wasn't expecting how many cars just parked on sidewalks and how "horribly designed" those several-hundred-year-old roads were for modern vehicles. 😆
@grondhero It's much worse in some places. We had to brief American servicemen in Naples, Italy to not stop at certain stop signs as the locals had rear-ended American cars because Americans were actually stopping at the stop signs. Not only would they park on the sidewalks, but if you did also, you had to pay parking to an attendant. The attendant was just some guy, not a city employee, and the money probably went to the local mafia. If you didn't pay, one of their goons would come down and break your windows out while you were away from your car.
As an American who has spent a lot of time driving a lot in Portugal, Spain, and France I can say it took me a while to get used to mostly much narrower roads and this was in compact cars lol so if a large American truck was in Europe I can’t even imagine how often they’d basically get have to stop and navigate around a lot of different ways or at the very least feel constant anxiety of not being able to clear certain angles and turns.
I'm an American truck driver, and get more than enough anxiety from the confined spaces we sometimes go to in the older industrial areas of our large cities, which were laid out before semis were the standard freight transport method. I wouldn't care to try running one of our trucks on European streets. Their freeways might be okay for an American rig though.
@@1997Banane trust me there are. But you're not supposed to be on those in a truck in the first place lol. If you are, you took a wrong turn most likely and are now fucked haha.
In the US, you can drive for 11 hours, not 12. You can be on duty for 14 hours, but you can only drive for 11. Once you have driven for 11 hours, you cannot drive again until you have been off duty for 10 hours.
@@psychoticbob Yes, you can drive 12 hours in a full 24 hour period, but no driver who knows what he is doing would do that. You also have to keep in mind your 70 hour limit. After 70 hours on duty you have to shut down for 34 hours. If you drive 12 hours every day then after 5 days you have to shut down.
Not exactly true. It's possible to drive 13 - 13.5 hrs in a 24 hr period. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I drive about 8.5 -9 hrs a day sometimes [most of the time] I just flag a pretrip about 5 minutes with one 30 minute pretrip a week. If I'm coast to coast I'll do 34 hr resets and drive 12-13 hrs a day if Midwest drop and hook weekends off I drive about 9.5 to 10.75 hrs a day if I'm just working crap I use recaps with 1 day off in a 8 day period
@@rankosaotome it really depends on the lanes you are running. When I do coast to coast hauling foodgrade tankers I'd commonly drive 11-13 hrs days starting my clock 0000-0100 hrs shutdown between 0700 and 1130 and go on my way once my 10 hr or split is up (depends on delivery) by the time I'm finished I have anywhere from 1 to 22 hrs available only to do it all over again in 34 hrs
The short version of the answer is America is big and spread out so you need a truck that is good for long hauls at high speed, whereas Europe is dense and comparatively small, which favors a truck that is more maneuverable. As a kid, I remember when about half of American trucks were cabovers. I loved the big rigs and miss the diversity we had in those days.
@@TheMarcusNyberg ok? I could drive across 3 countries in Europe in the time it would take just to cross the desert in W Texas. I've lived in both. Europeans don't understand how spread out, big, and diverse the United States is.
As a retired trucker from the USA now living in Germany, I really appreciated this video. I never had the "privilege" of driving a cab-over-engine tractor, but some of the ones I see here actually look pretty nice.
3:22 a slight correction - in Europe the speed limit for cars is higher. It depends on the country but usually over 100 km/h. There are different limits for trucks, however.
That's the problem with talking about Europe as if it was one country. The EU regulates a lot, but the exact rules still differ from country to country and not every country is a member of the Union anyway.
Motorways in the UK have a speed limit of 70mph so trucks can drive at 70mph but once their laden weight exceeds 7.5 tonnes they have to drive at 60mph.
Germany: Go as fast as you can with your car. Trucks: max 80. The Netherlands: Trucks 80. Cars 130, but only between 19:00 and 06:00. Otherwise it's 100. The one Europe is far from reality. It's a big mess with different rules per country. Only a few things are regulated union-wide. ADR for example.
Same in the USA. There is generally a 10mph split between truck and cars in most states with a speed limit over 65Mph (105kph). So for example much of the non coastal western states have a car limit of 80mph (129 kph) so trucks have a limit of 70 mph (113kph).
I'm originally from the UK but now living in the US. I have a CDL class A. There are owner operators, company drivers, regional and over the road jobs. Driven the longer sleeper cabs with a 53 foot trailer, there is no way you could maneuver this on the smaller UK roads. However driving a truck in the UK, albeit a smaller one IMO is more challenging, here in the US there is a lot more space and far less congestion. If there are any UK truckers reading this there are plenty of vacancies for truck drivers right now, put in the hours and you can easily make over $100,000 a year and that is being a company driver.
Well,I'm an owner operator driving a box truck and do lost of Amazon haulage to the post office as well as deliveries to construction sites. I've grossed 125k so far and will exceed my target of 150 k by years end. All this with a box truck.
@@robbflynn4325 I'm a non CDL and will be getting a 2nd truck if prices come down. Trust me,I'm better off as an owner operator. The key is getting a great truck and keeping your expenses low.

Some of our bridges are 500 years old or more, some of our roads 2000 years old. When these were load, nobody imagined heavy trucks, just horse drawn traffic. Here in Tanzania (Africa) you can see BOTH types of trucks, but the rigid body Scania and Mercredes-Benz Axor are most common, also the Mitsubishi Fuso. But Scania, Volvo, DAF, FAW, HOWO, Mercedes-Benz prime movers are also commonly seen in towns, cities, etc. It's not that common to see a Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth prime mover, but there is atleast 20 of them in the WHOLE country. Very informative video, Thanks.
We also have a limit on the total car length, total weight (GVM) and the total number of excels in a car cannot exceed 7. The regulations make it impossible to operate US trucks in Tanzania, them being left-handed exacerbates the issue further. In Zambia nosed-trucks a'la Peterbilt, Kenworth and Freightliner are a common sight.
@@kizomanizo That's the thing, with a permit Zambia truckers are allowed to enter the country but they need to alot of paperwork and need permits plus a oversize escort
Dah aisee nikiona comments halafu watu wanaongelea kuhusu Tanzania au kiswahili napata furaha sana sijui kwa nini. The scania, DAF, FAW and even Volvo are mostly common and mostly preferred due to their durability and ability to manouver the rough terrains in the countryside especially the rural areas in regions such a rukwa, tabora and Shinyanga, even some parts of simiyu and manyara have rough roads too
I'm a german truck driver and at first I want to thank Truck Tropia for this video, that explains the most important differences between US nosetrucks and EU COEs quite well. But maybe I got something wrong at the first part (drivers comfort) or there was something wrong in the explanation: The cabins of EU cabover trucks are quite smaller, yes, but the comfort is almost the same. We just don't have the opportunity to have a toilet inside the cabin, but all the other things mentioned in the video are in it. And we have less truck owners because a) it's not always senseable and b) we have way more regulations in the EU that make it quite difficult. And it is not unusual that owners, some companies or employees in the EU also modify their cabins to make them more comfortable or give 'em their own touch. We have to spend even more time to rest in these cabs because of working time regulations (max. 9h driving + 11h to rest and sleep). The manufacturers were able to gain space wherever it's possible (flat floor cabs with up to 2m height for example) and to make everything highly comfortable. It just needed some smart ideas to make all that possible. So COE's aren't bad, they're actually quite good, especially on our much smaller roads and cities.
Yes, on the latest high spec European cab overs, once you have folded the steering wheel up out of the way and rotated the front seats, there is a surprising amount of room in the cab due to the flat floor and 2m/6'6" headroom. This will be improved further soon when the manufacturers start selling the trucks that meet the new cab regulations that require more cab length in front of the steering axle.
I don't think you can really claim the cab overs are as comfortable as the yankee trucks. They just have so much more room that they don't even need to squeeze every inch of floor space, they can just make things (to a degree) whatever size they think is most appropriate.
@@Matt_Alaric In american style truck you design the cabin into two section. The sleeping/living area and the driving section. In modern european style cabovers you can set that front area to be part of the living area rather quickly, so at the end you have nearly the same area to use.
In Europe the highways may be just as wide, but the cities and towns are much more congested. There are so many places a conventional truck with a sleeper would never fit. I went from driving a truck with a 52 inch sleeper (a full size bed right behind the driver's seat) to a truck with a 72 inch sleeper (adds a closet/fridge on passenger side and a desk/microwave on the other). The extra 24 inches in wheelbase made it harder to turn around tight corners as well as made backing into tight loading docks much more difficult!
As I understand it, many of the streets in Europe date back hundreds of years. Back when the largest "vehicles" were ox drawn carts. Thus a shorter, more compact truck is more maneuverable.
Correction - the EU's length limit for tractor+trailer setup is 16,5m therefore with standard 13,6m long trailer we're left with just 2,9m for the cab and the space between the cab and the trailer. 18,75m applies to rigid truck+trailer setups.
This makes perfect sense. I've always wondered why cab-over trucks were becoming so rare in the U.S. There were tons of them when I was a kid, but now you only see them occasionally.
Still surprised they are gone. Distributors for companies such as Budweiser and Pepsi often use day cab trucks and a 48 ft trailer. They tend to drive mostly in the city.
Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. We have problems, indeed, but few countries or entire regions have the massive advantages America have.
You can drive an European truck in America just fine, you can't drive an American truck in Europe. That's what people get wrong about this. Video mentions this, they used to be like this in America too. The country did not fall apart. People tend to just accept the status quo too readily.
That's right, 16.5 And it should be 17 metres. 0.5m+ lenght in the cab, for the driver. Enough space for a freezer, a wardrobe, a microwave oven. Shame on us, European drivers. We drive work and sleep in ridiculous rolling prisoncells. Driver shortage? Are you surprised??

I'm Australian and pretty new to truck-driving, but I've found that it's far easier to reverse a double in a cab-over Volvo than in a Mack. The tighter turning circle makes it a lot more forgiving, especially if you're reversing around corners without much clearance either side. You can still do it in a Mack, but you have to react quicker to avoid jack-knifing. It probably doesn't make much difference though if you're doing it every day.

Dad was a truck driver here in Sweden, he always drove the typical 24m truck and trailer. In the really tight spots he (as would anyone driing this combo) would park the trailer outside of town and just bring the truck in so the packing would have to take this in to consideration of course. He always had a sleeper cap since he spent one night in the truck and the next at home for his work weeks.
try leaving trailer alone in Sweden now, I would bet you some krones that after night it would be empty or atleast slashed open just to see what's in it. Those imigrants are taking over a really beautiful country.
@@krirud7193 Its more the issue of Sweden having bad integration. And immigrants end up together in "slums" I saw the same here in Norway back in the 90s when we started immigration for full. It was mayhem for a while, gang etc. But once they figured out intergration. Things have become so much better, goverment doesnt concentrate them in poor neighborhoods anymore. Goverment acutally bought my fathers neighboring house. And put some Palestinian immigrants there. In a rather good area for family etc. I was at my fathers house for dinner on saturday, middle of the dinner the doorbell rings. The the palestinian neighbor with a big plate of food for my father, his wife had made some delicacies from home and wanted to share. It was some kind of vines he said, was good. Sweden does need to do intergration better, and dont take in more than you can afford/have infrastructure to intergrate. Cause if you leave them in society with little tools, little opportunity etc. Then a way of crime is often a solution. Thats my cents. Then again, i usualy look at the bigger picture than the easy victim to blame.
In Europe you can drive 9 hours in the day, but twice in week you can prolong driving up to 10 hours per day. After work the resting should be 11 hours, but three days in a week you can short the resting to only 9 hours. If you had pause during the working day 3 hours without interrupting, then you can short the resting up to 9 hours and this will count as the normal 11 hours resting.
Also regarding the smaller living space in European trucks. It is illegal to make driver spend their weekly rest (45 hours, with ability to shorten to 24 hours every second week) in their cab. Thus the cab need not be equipped for living on it for days on end as normal living space. Employer must provide hotel room or other acceptable level accommodation for the weekly rest, if the driver is not able to take said rest at their home. The European sleeper cab is just for daily the sleeping rests between driving. It shall not be the drivers second home.
@@aritakalo8011 This only applies to the weekly rest periods. This leaves 5-6 nights where the driver sleeps in the truck. There it should also be comfortable for the driver so that he can start the following tour rested.

@@joebloe1401 if you're not paying attention anyone is the first to arrive in an accident. The stigma about cabovers being unsafe/fragile is complete bogus, for sure about modern European one's
As someone who drove a truck for nearly 25 years, if you are an OTR (over the road) driver in the U.S., whether you are an owner/operator, or work for a trucking company, you still live in your truck. You don't go home at the end of every day. You do everything in your truck. You have to cook and eat in your truck. You have to have a refrigerator to store food that has to be kept cold. No trucker can afford to eat at restaurants or truckstops or stay in motels. I don't know how much European drivers make, but in the U.S. it's not very much. So you have to cut corners everywhere you can. Another issue with cabover trucks is that they will literally beat you to death. You sit right over the front wheels, and every bump in the road pounds your back bad. And we have some BAD roads in the U.S.
Yea, I love them all, I see a lot of European style truck on my country, I never see an American truck irl, long wheel base truck seems comfortable and georgeous
it just make life more interesting, that there are different trucks on different markets, :-) but of course euro trucks are maximazed to fit in euro, and the same goes for us trucks, to fit on long wide open roads. But it will always be exotic to choose a strange truck, but probably never the most beneficial.

What's coolest about this is seeing the older COE's in the US get so much love. I didn't know the the differences, definitely makes a lot of sense though.
In their own way they have become classic cars. People put a lot of time and effort into restoring them for show or as a hobby. Ever since the pandemic hit however I saw an increasingly large number of older cabovers on the roads pulling freight. I suspect that the supply chain issues also mend a shortage on newer tractor trailers, so people started pressing the significant number of remaining cabovers back into service.
I'm an American and my company had some logging units mounted on some cab over Fodens from Europe and I loved driving them way better then our stuff. I slept well in them and would the built in mini fridge between the seats quite nice too.
@Laika24102007 not technically, but when someone says American they normally mean someone from the United States, also called the United States of AMERICA.
@@ICCUWANSIUT "of America" meaning "pertaining to" ... not 'being America'. xD If 3 countries in Africa created a 'new bigger' country called "U.S. of Africa".... Africa would still be the continent, not the new country created.
@@testseven6663 When the term "American" started being used to mean US citizen, the USA was the only independent state in America. Everything else was a colony.
It's worth pointing out that smaller day cab trucks (no sleeper) with shorter, sloped noses are very common in the U.S., and offer a improved turning radius and good visibility both forward and around.
Most American roads do not allow for trucks at that speed and have limits specifically for haul trucks. The majority of those speeds are in the place like the middle of nowhere Texas where you'll have literally 600km of straight highway.
It all depends where you're at. When I drove from California to the east coast I remember Cali trucks on I-5 had a speed limit of 55 mph. When I was traveling through Utah on I-85 I think it was 85 mph.
I imagine how powerful the brakes needs to be in case of an emergency. To be fair, now that I live in North America, I think trucks are freaking dangerous. Driving in the middle lane, the same speed as you… Like wtf.
I am a diesel mechanic and I love how the American trucks are designed, easy to work on them and so much space you can play with, the cab-overs are a nightmare to work on them
In Finland, maximum HCT truck length is 35 m (116 ft). Special HCT permit needed. Does need some steerable trailer axles to meet the turning circle radius.
Trucks are different because of different roads, geography and laws. Pretending ones are "far superior" to the others is usually a way of showing prejudice, ignorance or an inferiority complex. Does anyone think companies like Volvo, Paccar or Daimler simply forget what they know when crossing the Atlantic Ocean?
Yes, just like in the US/Canada people are fiercely competitive with Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge pickups. Constantly arguing and trying to outshine the competitors.
It was a very professional video, No picking sides, just facts of the matter. Same with people fighting for Brands, Alot of it comes to preference, they all have issues, they all have things we will like better.
I honestly miss the old school American Cabover trucks that were everywhere during and before the 1980s. Hell, Cabovers I remember were used also in the 90s and up until as recently as the early 2000s. Every time I see a Cabover truck on the roads here in the US, I get really excited and ALWAYS point it out lol. It honestly gives me a weird feeling of nostalgia, especially due to the fact that it totally reminds me of older 80's and 90's movies haha.
Back in the 80s you would occasionally see an American cabover on a motorway here in the UK. Kenworth, Mack and White to name a few. My very young self got very excited when I finally saw a Kenworth Aerodyne! 🤩🤩😁😁
You also have to consider for US trucks the sheer distances traveled. I mean our short haul trucks while still typically not cab overs like Euro trucks are significantly shorter than the big long haul trucks that make coast to coast runs. That's roughly 4800km from Boston to LA, or a more common run would be 4200km from the Coachella valley, CA to NYC delivering fresh produce. That's the equivalent of driving from the western coast of France to the Russian border with Ukraine. These long hauls are often with a driver team where one drives while the other sleeps in the back of the cab, often switching without bothering to stop.
Another point to put up, is that oversize loads and heavy hauls are waaaaaaaaaaaay more common in America than Europe. This is because of how sparsely populated most of the country is, so massive loads are able to be transported through the vast wilderness of America. Europe is more densely populated, so the massive loads that Americans can haul don't always fit through the tight streets of most European cities. The tight streets of Europe also make it so that more pilot cars are required to block off streets to properly make way for an oversize load. High torque trucks with 10 wheels are common in America, while 6 wheeled trucks with regular torque specs (maybe high horsepower) do just fine in Europe. Also Americans are torque fanatics for obvious reasons.
A friend of mine drives a log truck on narrow swedish gravel roads. He had a American truckdriver friend over who joined him for a ride. He almost stood up in the seat yelling "YOU CANT DRIVE HERE!!!!!" :D
There is a huge difference driving a road truck and a logging truck. Honestly, I wouldn't have the balls to drive a logging truck, in the US, in Canada, or any other place in this world. You want to see fearlessness at work, watch a logging camp. From the drivers, to the tree cutters and climbers. Those guys got my respect!
Yea, driving on European roads basically makes you a much better driver(as in, more experienced with tight spaces). People don't blink if a car passes them less than 3 inches from their mirror. It's normal.
The main difference is Europe : Trucks lit up like Xmas trees at night and mirrors big enough to keep blind spots to a minimum .. USA : Huge rigs with mirrors small enough to fit into your girlfriends handbag and trailer running bars small enough to allow a Renault twingo to fit under the trailer
I need to correct something here: European semi-trucks are normally limited to 16.5 metres. A truck and trailer (or wagon and drag as we call them in the UK) can be 18.75, and a low-loader can be 18 metres, but normal semis are limited to 16.5. And we do have fridges and microwaves in our trucks, I've got them in mine. One thing that is worth noting is that our cabovers are very tall, so there's lots of vertical space. I virtual lived out of a Volvo FH when I was on Euro work, and it could swallow a huge amount of personal kit. The packaging and storage is very clever.

I come from New Zealand where both cab over and long nose trucks can be found on the road. I live in Japan now, where the compact cabover is king. But freight trucks in Japan in general are a lot more compact. Often tall but short wheelbases for maneuverability.
In Northern Europe (finland), where long distances the maximum weight allowed for a semi is 64tons(140t lbs) The combined mass of the truck and trailer is 76tons (167t lbs) and the main road network 108tons (238t lbs) without a special permit. When driving in the snow in winter, it requires a bit of understanding from the driver :)
@@badjer4328 When we say tons here in Europe (or any place where metric units are used), we mean metric tons which is the same as Mg (mega grams, which is kg×1000). Since 1 kg is approximately 2.2 lbs, Imperial tons (also known as short tons), if one of those is 2000 lbs, one metric ton is obviously about ten percent more than an imperial ton, but they are at least in the same ballpark. Approximately the same difference as metres vs. yards (1 yd = 0.91 metres, approximately), but that's probably a coincidence… There's also something called a long ton or English ton, which is much closer to the metric ton: 1 long ton = 1.016047 metric ton, or 2240 lbs, so a tiny bit heavier than the metric ton.
@@johnnyrosenberg9522 The US ton is 2000 lbs. The old Imperial ton is 20 hundredweights of 112 lbs each, i.e. 2240 lbs. A metric tonne is 1000 kg, i.e. approx. 2200 lbs. The US uses only selected Imperial measures, the ton not being among them.

Here in Slovenia, seeing a long nose lorry is extremely rare but when there is one, it's from another European country. In other words, I saw very few of them in my 20-year old life.
Here in Finland, usually Long noses are from Russia. (haven't seen any in 1 year...) There are some hobbyists with Scania long noses that use them commercially. But they are very few. Majority have been Russians with Freightliners or Peterbilts.

@@joebloe1401you gonna keep posting your ignorant comments every time someone mentions cabover? This isn't the 70s anymore. Modern cabover safety is often better than that of conventional truck designs.
Mechanics hate cabovers. It is much easier to work on an engine when all you have to do is pull the hood up. Some hoods can be detached. With a cab over you are always in an awkward cramped space.
@@francoistombe i bet, i know i would be worried about something crushing someone. Also the things in the cab would have to get tied down or taken out. big hassle
The first several trucks I drove, starting in the mid-'70s, were cab-overs. They're easier to maneuver in tight areas, but they ride much harder. You're sitting directly above the front axle and all that pounding down the road comes straight up into the seats. Regarding the care necessary when raising the cab, a friend of mine missed a small metal box when he secured the cab before tilting it up to work on the engine. It startled everyone in the shop when that box dropped straight through the windshield. The boss was NOT happy about that little whoops!!
@@francoistombe as a mechanic in Europe I have to disagree, I can pull the whole engine together with the gear box in less than 2h, and modern eu trucks have electric cab lift
I'm in New Zealand, and Cab-over trucks are much more popular here. Drivers are not allowed to live in their trucks, so that eliminates one reason for large cabs. Also, our distances are much shorter, so driving time is less. I have been driving on and off since 1972, and I definitely prefer the cab-over design, mainly due to the better visibility, and bonneted trucks are not common here. I did enjoy the movie "Convoy", however, and I have driven in a convoy here, which is only allowed in the Military, where I got my first Truck licence.
Are, our distances are much shorter,? It is About 2000 km by road from Kaitaia and Invercargill about the distance between Florida and Toronto Canada. The roads are not eight lane interstates they are, because of terrain and population .narrow , windy, step and frankly scary in places . For an example The south island has mountains as high as the rockys along its spine and is only 160 miles wide. NZ line haul trucks are both heaver and longer than USA federal limits, Factory new 8x4 kenworht semi cab over with a 625 hp cumin's anyone? You will only find such a unit in NZ and AU,
I was just in South of France where I lived a number of years ago and with the massively increased traffic I had to ponder how difficult it would be to drive a truck there. The heavy traffic and the constant roundabouts and the tiny side streets would make truck driving a real challenge there, it seemed to me.
Can confirm, driving a truck - even a European one - absolutely sucks on tiny European roads and the comfort levels can only be described as "discomfort".
@@ilgiuse7728 "It's all relative" and Europe is tiny for the size of vehicles we've found ourselves needing. A lot of the building practices at the very least.
I'm not a trucker myself but as a French I only see european trucks. I think they are cool, but american trucks look so massive, so powerful and I love how they are built for trucker, with all the stuff in the cabin. You don't have that in Europe.
The length requirements in Europe has changed a bit the last few years too, we allow longer trucks on certain roads. In Norway we almost only see European trucks in service, but American trucks are popular with hobbyists and enthusiasts. Just like old American cars. There's a certain charm and nostalgia with them.
Back in the late 70’s/early 80’s American trucks also had a very strict limit on how long they could be, and cabover tractors were much much more common back then. My dad always hated them, he said they would beat you to death going down the road.
And there was nothing to protect you if you got into an accident and you were the one getting your nose crunched. That long nose does help keep drivers safe if an accident like that happens.

But sometimes things are out of our hands because they happen too quickly to safely react to. So please, before you try to speak on what commercial drivers have to deal with, spend some time in our seats and see the sheer amount of bad driving out there.
Tbh the real reason between the 2 different truck types is the overall length issue. That's why 'conventional ' trucks are basically non existant in Europe
@@BoskiM not in Ireland they're not. None of the major European truck brands offer them anymore. @@BoskiM talking bollocks man. We run at 44 to 46 metric tonnes on 6 axles. Just like most other Euro countries. Like other euro nation we are restricted to overall length as I said b4. Hence why cabovers are the truck of choice here and the rest of Europe. European trucks are legislated to carry more weight than US trucks.
A carpenter friend of mine worked in America for years and shipped his F350 pickup truck over when he came home to Ireland. He had to get rid of it pretty quickly when he realised that it was too big to fit on anything but the motorways. 😂😂
0:20 Regulation. In the US the max. length of a truck is measured from behind the cap to the end of the truck while im Europe the cap is included, thus in Europe the cap has to be as short of possible to have as much room for cargo as possible.
As much as I have great memories of travelling with my Dad in his cabovers (International Harvester Transtar and Mack F models) as a kid, there's one thing you can't deny. When it comes to an accident, a cabover driver is first on the scene, and last to leave.
Agree! But statistically European Trucks are involved in less accident than US I believe is 4 to 1. From a simple scratch to a mayor collision, this is due to more technology and regulations. Also people respect and drive better than in the us, they have something called curves lol some trucks have features such as automatic brake technology in case u fall to sleep or someone stop in front of you. Automatic transmission make a huge difference at the beginning I used to hate it but is like butter so relaxing and practical, almost all of the trucks have 600-700hp. Any European truck could make it to us but not the other way around. But personally usa trucks are better because service is easier 9 vs 12 hrs is a huge difference at the end of the week.

While they are not forbidden from being on highways, there are the shorter semi trucks in America. They are not cab overs, but they have single rear axles and a day cab. They don't have a bed. They are similar to a large moving truck, but towing a trailer instead of a being a large box truck. These I have seen are very common in cites. Often, they are owned by the company that uses them, such as Publix and UPS.
I'm in a Volvo here in South Africa enjoying dinner in bed. Those American trucks would be greatly appreciated here if we can persuade the policy makers. Short nose European version we use has disadvantages consider that we spend most of our time in this cabs
I didn't know that in U.S.A. lenght limits are only for trailers but there aren't limitations for tractor's lenght. So now I understand the reason why some customized trucks has sleeper cabin long like two metro wagons..... It's really true that every day we can learn something new 👍
Actually in Northern Europe the maximum length is 34,5 m (or about 113 ft). These are known as HCT, or High Capacity Transport trucks. Maximum weight is 76 metric tons (or about 168,000 lbs) and you don´t get a ticket if you are less than 10% over that. Weights up to 104 tons have been allowed with special permits. Over long distances it makes sense to use big trucks. For some reason the US can only understand semi´s.
@@MrMaple-iq1sh It is true that in Sweden the standard doesn´t go up to 76 tons, but in the north at mining and at sawmills it is quite common to see the bigger ones. I´ve personally seen these at Munksund sawmill. With rising costs and so on, the direction is heading towards bigger trucks where it is possible to run those. Central Europe has smaller roads in many places and the big ones just don´t fit.
I was in the UK and Ireland a few years ago and spent a month driving around both major islands... The rental car I was driving was a VW Golf or Polo, so fairly small and it worked well on the roads over there... My vehicle back home though was a full size 4-door 4WD pickup and although it would have given me greater visibility on the smaller roads because it would have sat up above the hedgerows, I would have hated driving it on some of 2-way, but one-lane roads that I encountered... Occasionally, I would see a tour bus trying to negotiate those tight roads around the Lake District... Those tour buses looked noticeably narrower than what we see in the US though... I don't think it would be a very pleasant experience driving a European (much less an American) tractor-trailer rig over there...
Another thing to add is the size of the U.S.A. Some states like California, Texas and Alaska are so massive: its like traviling to another country. You can drive 1k miles (1600 ~km) in a circle and you would still be in the same state.
I am originally from California, lived there for the past 50 years, I now live in the Midwestern State of Michigan (moved this year). Physically and economically California is huge, it is whole other country within the United States of America. And physically Texas is even bigger; I have never been to Alaska bit I can only imagine how immense it is
1:55: "European truck are lighter..." Also not true. Your average American truck is limited to 40 tons (80,000 lbs), but most European trucks can weigh 44 METRIC tons (44,000 Kg, or about 97,000 lbs). Even in places where a single drive axle rig is limited to 40 metric tons, that's still 88,000 lbs.
Right. And for that reason American trucks are made lighter. You may see a lot of chrome and thick looking parts, but it's mostly plastic or thin aluminum. That also sets a limit on tech add-ons. Despite being shorter, European trucks are heavier. Even semi tractors.
@@TruckTropia Apples to apples, A Scania 6x4 with normal roof is a bit over 10 ton. A Volvo VNL slots in at around 8t. 2 tons lighter. Much due to lack of safety features in the US construction. It gets so tiring when none making this videos ever even bother to actually do some research and get there facts straight and is also why this video deserves a down vote
Total maximum vehicle length in Sweden is 25.25 metres / ~83 feet. Max weight is 64 tons (64 000 kg) / ~142 000 lbs. SCANIA makes some great cab over versions for the really long trips.
i am a canadian trucker. i like long hood kw and peterbilt but i also like the old cabovers we had with long wheelbase european trucks are nice but would be too small for living in it full time. this year has been 24 years full time living in a truck for me! and loving it
But it's similat to US, these features mostly have people who own that truck, not people who are just drivers and drive with plenty of trucks. Those bigger truck companies can have even deals with hotels or hostels so their drivers can sleep almost everywhere, but when you own your truck and you don't work for big company, you probably have to sleep in truck.
The algorithm recommended me this video. I live in the EU, but have been to the States and this question had always been lingering at the back of my head. Thank you for giving me a clear-cut answer!
1: for semi trucks the max lengh is 16.5m nit 18.75m 2: the maximum weight in Europe for trucks is 40 tons while in the US its ~38 Tons 3: Trucks in Europe are much mire modern and have electronical systems for years that us trucks are just starting to use, for examole radar guided cruise control that holds the distance between you and the truck in front of you, thats a thing in European trucks for over 15 Years now
There's some variation. You didn't include day cabs (American), and one guy I went to school with whose father was a trucker and their truck I did get to see, was an American sleeper cab style from Mercedes Benz, which is a European manufacturer.
Here in Germany, trucks are actually prohibited from driving on sundays which I think is a thing in other countries too. That sometimes leads to quite hairy situations on the Autobahn. So essentially you have two lanes and no speed limit for all vehicles except trucks. The right lane is filled with convoy after convoy of trucks going 80 kph, trying to finish their hauls or get over the border before sunday and in the left lane you got people doing 250+. So if you just joined the motorway and are caught in between two trucks, you better check your mirrors three times or else you might have a literal TRUCKload (...sorry) of trouble a lot sooner than you think.
In the US, even the slower governed trucks are usually well above 56 mph. And I'll take conventional cab any day as long as I'm not in Europe. I think they look better, plus the extra sleeper room is very nice. I usually stay in my truck for weeks at a time, so that extra room is very useful.
@@MrMatavelhas seriously? Wow. I know truckers here in the US who haven't left the truck in years. They just live in it. For some people that works. I need a break about once a month so I take usually about a couple days off monthly. I'm not as tough as some.
@@Redbikemaster The thing is that judging by Portuguese laws, which will mirror EU legal principles, you cannot be an owner operator and provide transport services. The lorry must be owned by a company. So, you can be an operator but it must be through a company you own, which will require a much more complex legal process as you need to create a company and just not simply buy a truck and offer your services... So this poses a barrier to owner operators and most truckers are employees... and the ones which aren't, are employees of their own company. I hope you understand what I m trying to say!
@@MrMatavelhas aww man that would make me so mad. I love driving my own equipment. I'm thankful the US isn't that way. You can own your truck completely and be a one man company. The hardest part is the paperwork and paying for the insurance.

We had to stop when the snow got over a meter in depth because the skidders and dozers finally couldn't haul the 3600+kg logs out anymore, good times. My boss said "You put the Fu&&&ng work truck in the F##ng ditch or start Fu*&%ng backing up because they can't stop." I also drove trucks OTR decades later.
Some of the very long variants of the US truck cabs have enough space for a standing shower and a toilet in addition to a mini-fridge, multi-role bed/desk/passenger bench seat, sink, microwave, and TV. Basically a miniature RV packed behind the driver's seat. Some of those use the space above the cab, behind the fairing, to hold the water tanks.
I'm fascinated by the fact that most of the difference is about geography. In terms of usable land that isn't mountains to build things like roads on Europe is much smaller than the United States but they have 1/3 more people. It's very interesting how this affects everything including truck design
@@xandersnyder7214 Indeed, concerning the EU, I had thought of continental Europe (~750M)... For example, in Switzerland we are not a member of the EU and we are in the middle of Europe.

Today I learned something new. I always wondered why the trucks were so different over there from here. Being from Norway, it makes perfect sense why the Europeans are how they are.
Another difference: European trucks MUST have a digital driving computer installed which registers exactly when the driver is moving and when the driver is resting. Each driver has a personal card. The interpretation of the driving time is extremely strict: you can not even move your truck to park it around the corner, if you exceeed driving time. Driver and owner company are both fined if there is a problem.

@@savagegtalks5912 then explain please why European trucks use less fuel in average than American ones?

Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him.
I think price is also a factor.
You caminhoneiros are a brave bunch. My wife and I went to her native Rio in September '22 and as a caminhoneiro Inglês, I was amazed to see two full sized fuel tankers on the back of a Scania in Lapa for example. Makes my job look easy in comparison.
Dit is net als appels met peren vergelijken
@@jonasqueiroga5106 Those regulations must be a result of the size of the roads though. You wouldn't want giant American trucks filling up tight roads, leading to more traffic issues.
A well designed machine is not one built for every environment, it is one built to excel in its environment.
Debatable
What about a cordless drill? Vs an impact driver? If I only could choose one...I would go for the cordless drill for the very purpose that it works "good enough" for all environments...Vs an impact driver that is specialised to that environment..as u said.
@@Change-Maker A drill excels at drilling holes and to some extent thanks to its own internal mechanisms also makes it suitable to tighten screws. (So for home use, the drill excels)
Whereas an impact drivers, though not very suitable for drilling holes, it does generate 2 to 3 times more torque than a drill and it’s more suitable for quickly driving long or large screws and fasteners. So in an industrial use where there’s thousands of screws to install on a product, every second saved per screw/fastener installed adds up. May not be that relevant for home use but for industrial use, it does. (So in an industrial setting, an impact driver excels)
Am I saying that a drill is more useful than a impact driver? Yeah, that’s because most of us don’t need to fasten thousands of screws per day, at most we just have to fasten a few screws a day which a drill with a screw bit can do just fine.
The driver of a cab-over is always the first to arrive at the scene of an accident!!!!

Have a australian truck video in the Channel 👍
@@rvail136 That's amazing... I wonder why they don't use cargo train for long distance. Maybe because the rail network there is not as dense as in EU?
Australia just approved verdict of this video by using both types of trucks correct way
You see cabover trucks a lot in America too for short-distance deliveries - Typically box trucks with attached cargo instead of trailers are cabovers to maneuver in city streets or suburban lots.

We have narrow back roads here in the US too and I’ve driven trucks on them plenty of times. The video has alot of missing details and misconceptions.
@@purpleking6678 No, not as narrow as in Europe.

Wow, this is great....In India the drivers drive continuously and no such provision is there....
@@psychoticbob Yes, you can drive 12 hours in a full 24 hour period, but no driver who knows what he is doing would do that. You also have to keep in mind your 70 hour limit. In the US you can drive for 14 hours in a 24 hour period.

The short version of the answer is America is big and spread out so you need a truck that is good for long hauls at high speed, whereas Europe is dense and comparatively small, which favors a truck that is more maneuverable.

80km/h and 90km/h

Tanzanian roads are narrow but straight as an arrow. From Dar Es Salam to Morrogoro feels like you're in a boat. The happiest country in the world.
Dah aisee nikiona comments halafu watu wanaongelea kuhusu Tanzania au kiswahili napata furaha sana sijui kwa nini. The scania, DAF, FAW and even Volvo are mostly common and mostly preferred due to their durability and ability to manouver the rough terrains in the countryside especially the rural areas in regions such a rukwa, tabora and Shinyanga, even some parts of simiyu and manyara have rough roads too
Scania are the MOST commonly seen trucks. Hence I think the European style is the most seen.
Maybe it's different in Europe, but in the US, if you don't have access to a toilet, sooner or later you're going to be pretty uncomfortable.
- Europe blows and you know it.
The extra 24 inches in wheelbase made it harder to turn around tight corners as well as made backing into tight loading docks much more difficult!
get gud lol
Still can't grasp how long the cab is
Even the lanes on the highways are much narrower and on the country roads, youd have the most problems.
As I understand it, many of the streets in Europe date back hundreds of years. Back when the largest "vehicles" were ox drawn carts. Thus a shorter, more compact truck is more maneuverable.
@@gregmaday1331 true for some roads yes. But not so true for roads that are used by semi trucks
I see them often where I work
Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.
(19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad)..
God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.”

The tighter turning circle makes it a lot more forgiving, especially if you're reversing around corners without much clearance either side. You can still do it in a Mack, but you have to react quicker to avoid jack-knifing. It probably doesn't make much difference though if you're doing it every day.

I hauled for 7 yrs in the US, and now live in EU. I love all trucks, regardless of style.

In their own way they have become classic cars. People put a lot of time and effort into restoring them for show or as a hobby. Ever since the pandemic hit however I saw an increasingly large number of older cabovers on the roads pulling freight. Most American roads do not allow for trucks at that speed and have limits specifically for haul trucks. The majority of those speeds are in the place like the middle of nowhere Texas where you'll have literally 600km of straight highway.

Fsc trucking is thinking of buying a 2nd truck but the're afraid they can't find a driver who dares to drive it :P
You should really find out what the average performance and load of a european truck is compared to an american one.
Yea, driving on European roads basically makes you a much better driver(as in, more experienced with tight spaces).
People don't blink if a car passes them less than 3 inches from their mirror. It's normal.
The main difference is
Europe : Trucks lit up like Xmas trees at night and mirrors big enough to keep blind spots to a minimum ..

Since 1 kg is approximately 2.2 lbs, Imperial tons (also known as short tons), if one of those is 2000 lbs, one metric ton is obviously about ten percent more than an imperial ton, but they are at least in the same ballpark. Approximately the same difference as metres vs. yards (1 yd = 0.91 metres, approximately), but that's probably a coincidence…
There's also something called a long ton or English ton, which is much closer to the metric ton: 1 long ton = 1.016047 metric ton, or 2240 lbs, so a tiny bit heavier than the metric ton.

@@MrGaryGG48 The seats cost thousands of euros so the pounding comes into the air cushions instead of your ass and back.
I did enjoy the movie "Convoy", however, and I have driven in a convoy here, which is only allowed in the Military, where I got my first Truck licence.
of course you wont have to live in your truck when you can drive across the country and back in a few hours when in america it takes a few days

I was just in South of France where I lived a number of years ago and with the massively increased traffic I had to ponder how difficult it would be to drive a truck there. The heavy traffic and the constant roundabouts and the tiny side streets would make truck driving a real challenge there, it seemed to me.

The length requirements in Europe has changed a bit the last few years too, we allow longer trucks on certain roads. In Norway we almost only see European trucks in service, but American trucks are popular with hobbyists and enthusiasts. Just like old American cars. There's a certain charm and nostalgia with them.
@@karel_de_lille I just saw one in Netherlands. But just one and never before.

These are just Finnish regulations. For example, in Sweden the maximum weight is closer to 60 tons.
In the US I saw a FedEx truck that was double long. Probably not very heavy though.
HCT are not semis, they have an additional trailer.
The semi portion of a HCT is regulated exactly as the rest of Europe.
And then in Australia where you can travel 22hrs in one direction and still be in the same state
I am originally from California, lived there for the past 50 years, I now live in the Midwestern State of Michigan (moved this year). Physically and economically California is huge, it is whole other country within the United States of America. And physically Texas is even bigger; I have never been to Alaska bit I can only imagine how immense it is
So basically the reason they are so big is because the US forgot about railroads which would fit this niche a lot better.
Maybe he ment the unloaded weight
Right. And for that reason American trucks are made lighter. You may see a lot of chrome and thick looking parts, but it's mostly plastic or thin aluminum. That also sets a limit on tech add-ons.
Despite being shorter, European trucks are heavier. Even semi tractors.
Yes ..
Ment unloaded 😀
@@TruckTropia Apples to apples, A Scania 6x4 with normal roof is a bit over 10 ton. A Volvo VNL slots in at around 8t. 2 tons lighter. Much due to lack of safety features in the US construction.

2: the maximum weight in Europe for trucks is 40 tons while in the US its ~38 Tons
3: Trucks in Europe are much mire modern and have electronical systems for years that us trucks are just starting to use, for examole radar guided cruise control that holds the distance between you and the truck in front of you, thats a thing in European trucks for over 15 Years now

So if you just joined the motorway and are caught in between two trucks, you better check your mirrors three times or else you might have a literal TRUCKload (...sorry) of trouble a lot sooner than you think.
thats crazy
Prohibited on sundays in Belgium too
In the US, even the slower governed trucks are usually well above 56 mph. And I'll take conventional cab any day as long as I'm not in Europe. I think they look better, plus the extra sleeper room is very nice. I usually stay in my truck for weeks at a time, so that extra room is very useful.
In Europe you must take a weekly rest outside the truck cab

The us use to have them. I actually saw one last year. Most drivers I've talked to prefer the nose trucks. Maintenance and the engine isn't under you.
