Namjoon’s vocals is so underrated. I’m so happy to hear someone appreciate it as much as I do! And yes, Jimin’s voice is unlike any other. He knows it, we know it and he would most likely take it as a compliment if you say that his voice has the ability to sound like a woman’s voice.

ARMY doesn’t get offended by people thinking it’s a female voice, I think we even have all thought that at least once! It’s something amazing about his voice and helps BTS stand out.

Coldplay and BTS have become good friends. Chris Martin always speaks very highly of them, and they have functioned as a sort mentor to BTS as a group who have maintained their career together for so long.
Chris Martin gave his own personal guitar to Jin, helped him with the song The Astronaut, and even invited Jin to sing at a Coldplay concert with him. BTS ARMY fandom and Coldplay's fandom also get along really well. We adore Coldplay for how kind and respectful they've been to BTS. 💜

It's so nice and refreshing to see people appreciate low vocal tones. Often the high notes get attention (understandable with how beautiful and difficult it is to do), but then the low notes get ignored. It's great that both ends of the vocal spectrum gets some love.

I really loved Jimins voice here its so soft and angelic just like his face and his personality. His voice is what makes BTS different from the usual kpop groups. theres no voice like him and even if he sings another group song you would easily recognize its him.

I think the reason BTS's music is so flavorful is that each member has their own uniquely distinctive vocal color, and when they come together, they create a perfect harmony.

The synergy that BTS have with each other is never to 'compete', but to 'elevate'. Imo, that's why they can harmonize so well with each other and know exactly how to use their voice to do so.
During the past 3 years during their various enlistment & solo projects, they always publicly encourage and congratulate each other on their solo successes. 💜

Officially BTS has 4 vocals and 3 rappers but sometimes we can have 7 vocals or 7 rappers. They are very talented and are always improving their vocals, dancing, composition and production of songs.

Let's not forget that the 3 lower vocals harmonizing are actually the rappers in the group and not singers... yet also don't forget that they can carry a tune and have supported the 4 vocalist for so many songs and so many years, vice versa. Since you like Coldplay, I recommend checking out Coldplay and BTS's song together called My Universe, plus the mini Making of documentary for it! Also Jin(The oldest member of BTS and the one with the pink mic here) did a song with Coldplay called the Astronaut(Chris Martin even made a camo in the MV) and also flew out to a Coldplay concert in Argentina to perform it for the first time live! Also I agree with the other comments that you should check out one of BTS' Japanese songs next, I love them all but some of my favorite are Your Eyes Tell, Lights, Let Go and Crystal Snow!

BTS has been together since 2011/2012. They debuted in 2013.
They lived together in the same apartment until 2021!
Their synchrony is tremendous, both in their vocals, as in their dance, and in their soul!

Jimins angelic voice always gets em. All of their voices, like you mentioned, are so distinct and unique. Jimins is just beyond.

Thank you for this insightful reaction. As you are interested in the technical logistics: This was filmed during the pandemic. BTS did a lot of performances during the pandemic for TV shows. They were filmed by their own team in Korea and then sent to the shows. They always sing live for performances, also when there is no live audience. Their team is top notch and obviously they are experts at catering for BTS' needs. Whenever BTS tell us that they were unhappy with some technical details, it's always when they perform somewhere where their own team is not in charge.

BTS's Jin released an album called "Happy" in November, 2024. I'd love to watch a reaction of his showcase where he sang live his songs.
The second day of the showcase was my favorite, because Wendy of RedVelvet joined him on stage to sing "Heart on the window", one of my favs from the album.

I watched this when it first aired and my jaw was on the floor when RM sang his low notes (the first low notes you noticed).As you can see from other commenters, he is primarily a rapper.
This whole performance had me in shock and in love and I listened to it so many times over the following days and weeks. I still consider it one of my favorite performances of theirs.
And as you said, one of the things I love about them is that their voices all sound so different. I miss that now when I am listening to a single singer!

Thank you for this reaction! Yes, BTS always sing live!! I love that they included the rappers by having them do the lower harmonies. This song is so beautiful and BTS hold such respect for Coldplay. For a better first look at all seven of them (since the rappers didn't have any solo parts here) I recommend Fake Love, ON, and Spring Day! If you do the music videos be sure to turn the CC on, and if you do lives search "title English subs", that way you know what they're saying.

I think you might enjoy watching their behind the scenes footage when preparing for performances/concerts. We see them asking the sound engineers to adjust their in-ears for other member's voices or band volume etc.

I would love to recommend their Magic Shop live performance. It is a vocal only performance (no dancing) which showcases their on stage charisma and crowd interaction. Also much like this song, their individuality stands out.

Yes, this was live. BTS are BEASTS at live performance. They are famous for it (among other things.)
Wait til you see them dance and sing at the same time.
The rap line can all sing (obviously) and they do all sing on their solo work. But on their group work, they tend to leave the vocals to the vocal line out of respect. This is a rare exception. There are rap portions to most of their own songs. The rappers always write their own verses and are the principal writers, composers and producers in the group, although they have all done all of those things.

Hello 👋 I’ll give my breakdown from the perspective of someone with a B.Mus in vocal performance and 35+ years of experience singing in choral ensembles. The first singer, JK, is a tenor with a slightly lower tessitura (in my world I would call him a T2). V is a baritone, with an astonishingly strong falsetto so he has a really impressive range overall. Jimin is a true countertenor (very minimal low range as one would expect) but he can take his head voice very, very high before even needing to switch to falsetto. And finally, Jin is a tenor with a higher tessitura (I’d call him a T1). He also can take his head voice really high so he can use a “belting” tone very effectively at higher pitches. Both JK and V have probably spent a lot of time focusing on building their falsettos over the years, I suspect because often the keys chosen for their group songs are quite high, to accommodate (and make the best use of) Jimin/Jin’s natural ranges. The rappers are all in the baritone range, I would guess, based on their speaking voices.

Alright you've done a Korean song and now an English cover. Maybe next you can do Film Out live or Your Eyes Tell live, which are both Japanese songs from BTS.

Thank you for your insights and sharing your enjoyment. They each are very skilled, yet cooperate to enhance each other. They sing live while performing complex high cardio choreography, which never fails to surprise me. Their collective discography is extremely varied, often with deep meaning as well. I never know what to expect next... and I love it! Glad they are genuinely nice people as well that didn't let their fame destroy their grounded humility, nor their sense of humour. Coldplay is a perfect mentor to them when it comes to stage longevity. Coldplay was surprised how little the language barrier interfered with shared projects but also real friendship. I hope for more collab.

The one you said you wouldn't have thought was a male voice is Jimin. My description of his voice in this particular song is "child angel." Jimin wasn't a singer at all when he joined the team, and everyone--he, the other members and the vocal trainers at their company--really fought demons to help him discover his voice, and when they did? This excellence is what you got. It's just very special. The rappers? All of them have a natural low toned voice, but a limited range. But when they stay in their range and exercise control, their low harmonies are beautiful.

Re the in-ears: these guys and their crew are experienced masters at in-ear coordination, after years of concerts where they sing *and* dance!

We've seen behind the scenes when they are doing sound checks where they ask for the music to be raised, or a specific person's voice to be raised or lowered etc. They get done individually for each of them and as they've been at this a while I would say they have a team of sound engineers who are just as seasoned and professional as our guys are.

5:04 RM has a bountiful vocal and rap voice. You should listen to his 'Wild Flower' and 'Seoul'.

In the long run, every member of BTS have been open to growing, learning, improving their skills, expanding their emotional depth and psychological sophistication over the years. And that is what keeps us all staying along for the ride.

BTS are not only great live vocally but are brilliant dancers and sing and dance live at the same time choreo adjusted so any parts requiring extreme breath control is central and more still whilst the rest dance around them

The statement you made about the ear pieces is correct. Each member has a color coded mic 🎤 and earpiece. I believe that makes it possible to have such control and make the flow so smooth.

To make it a little easier on you, from left to right at 6:15, the members are Jimin (singer), Jungkook (singer), Suga (rapper doing low harmony), V (singer), J-Hope (rapper doing low harmony), Jin (singer), & RM (rapper doing low harmony)

Talking abt Jimin's vocal, in their song Life Goes On, the main producer was looking to get a female singer to sing parts of the chorus, but realised that Jimin's voice already has that feminine quality needed for the song.
I'm curious abt what you will think abt the members vocal, especially Jimin, in this I'll Be Missing You cover. His voice sounds especially ethereal here.
